Recruitment Company Moves To Next-Generation BACSTEL-IP Platform- Implementation of ALBACS-IP provides fast and secure electronic payments using latest PKI and IP technologies -
Fusion People, a nationwide recruitment company for the construction industry, has implemented ALBACS-IP, the new BACSTEL-IP compliant software from eTransactions author, Albany Software. The recruitment company is among the first companies to adopt the new BACSTEL-IP infrastructure for electronic payments.
All 40,000 companies in the UK that are making or receiving BACS payments are required to upgrade to the new BACSTEL-IP platform by 2005. However, early adoption has enabled Fusion People to avoid the potential demand and supply BACS bottleneck that may occur, as companies rush to comply with the deadline as it approaches.
Fusion People, which launched on 5th January 2004, chose ALBACS-IP because it was a proven, cost-effective BACS product, which provides full integration with its payroll system, Merit, and its accounting system, Sage Line 100. This enabled the company to achieve its goal of being able to complete payroll transactions for its contractor staff within three months of formation.
Mark Swain, Director of Fusion People, explains, “We needed a fully integrated BACS, payroll and accounting software platform so that we could automate the entire payment process for candidates. Rapid implementation and integration of systems were key drivers because we had a confirmed company launch date of 01 January 2004, and were therefore working to tight deadlines. We were very conscious that typical software implementations can be troublesome, but the implementation of ALBACS-IP took a matter of weeks and went incredibly smoothly.”
Using ALBACS-IP Fusion People can ensure all bank details are valid prior to submission to BACS, helping to ensure successful processing of daily payroll transactions. ALBACS-IP checks bank details using the UK Industry Sort Code Directory (ISCD), and performs full modulus checking on the combination of the valid sort code and account number, significantly minimising errors and failed submissions.
Swain comments, “Daily payroll is an inherent part of the contractor workforce and our candidates require the peace of mind that payments will be made on time with 100% accuracy. Any failure to make these payments would have a detrimental effect on our business and therefore it was imperative that we chose a reliable, secure and future-proof system such as ALBACS-IP, which could support our business model moving forward.”
Commenting on the working relationship with Albany Software, Swain concludes, “Albany offered an excellent price/performance proposition and a rapid deployment time that was very appealing to us. We liked the fact that they were pro-active and very committed to this project from the outset in order to ensure we could meet our deadlines.”

Link Up Registration in Record Time
Launched on the 5th January 2004, Fusion People, a National provider of technical recruitment services has gained Link Up registration to the Rail Industry in record time.
Nigel Sweeney Associate Director of Fusion People, says “It was imperative for us to gain Link Up registration quickly in order to meet the substantial demand from our clients. Our specialist Rail Division can now forge ahead with its plans to become the UK’s leading provider of permanent and contract staff to the Rail sector.”
Award Winning Technology Creates Candidate RushFusion People, the recently formed National Recruitment Company reports that the use of new, award winning technology has been responsible for its dramatic increase in candidate registrations on their website.
Once candidates have submitted their CV online at www.fusionpeople.com , a revolutionary extractor tool deploys Artificial Intelligence to automatically fill in the agency registration form for them and sets up a personalised account.
Director Mark Swain commented "this effective use of the latest technology has proved a real hit with candidates who have found it both highly convenient and easy to use."
Launch of New Recruitment ConsultancyA fusion of experience, innovation and best practice has led to the creation of a new national recruitment consultancy specialising in the built and natural environment.
Fusion People is the brainchild of Paul Metcalfe, former Managing Director of the agency AndersElite. It will offer clients a comprehensive range of technical recruitment services including contract staffing, managed staffing and permanent recruitment.
Based in Southampton with regional offices in Birmingham, Bristol, and London, Fusion People has adopted an innovative approach towards the recruitment of its own staff.
All employees will be invited to take up an equity stake in the business, giving everyone a direct share in the company’s success. This, says Paul, will guarantee staff tenure and help drive the quality and responsiveness of service for which he wants Fusion People to become known.
We’re determined not to compromise on quality and that’s why from day one staff will have a stake hold in the business. That way, we know everyone has made a long term commitment and is prepared to go the extra mile to meet the needs of both employers and jobseekers alike.”
But Fusion People will not rely solely on its people - it’s also investing heavily in its support infrastructure. An innovative website will help attract high calibre candidates looking for their next career move, says Paul. And Fusion People will also have an on-the-ground recruitment presence in Australia.
Aus Link will soon operate from Brisbane and the City of London, and offer a coordinated recruitment service to candidates travelling to the UK prior to leaving Australasia. Consultants will offer guidance on market conditions, salaries, visa and work permits, accommodation and tax - and will also provide a parallel service for jobseekers looking to return back to Australia or New Zealand.
The Fusion People web site also reflects the innovative nature of the company. Once candidates have submitted their CV online, a revolutionary extractor tool automatically fills in the agency registration form for them and sets up a personalised account. From here there is unlimited access to search the jobs database, job alerts by e-mail and sms, details on prospective employers, and the option to apply for jobs on-line and track applications.
Through more effective use of people, processes and technology we will aim to consistently deliver better, faster and more cost effective results than other consultancies,” says Paul.
Paul, who left AndersElite in September 2003 after helping it grow turnover from £20m to £90m, has succeeded in attracting many of his former colleagues to join him in the new venture. They include Directors, Paul Scott ; Mark Swain ; Chris Fenn ; Steve Harper and Steve Fisher.
Fusion People is now actively recruiting staff. Interested Recruitment Consultants should call Paul on 07793 554413 to discuss opportunities in complete confidence or email their CV to fusionpeople@btinternet.com
